Swifty tough as nails9/22/2023 ![]() And that’s it, the teams for the entire season are set.īut the episode isn’t over yet. Meanwhile, Liz representing Dirty Hands chooses Construction Foreman Angel Castillo, Cyril, Mariner Tara Alverson, Transport Track Repair Iraida Mujica, and ends up with last pick Patrick. Michael decided to rep Savage Crew and ends up picking Construction Superintendent Scott Henry, Pipe Welder Sarah Burkett, Steelworker Swifty Sanders, Merryl, and Celi. This time around, the teams don’t get to pick their names instead, they’re inheriting Savage Crew and Dirty Hands from season 1 as a legacy thing, which is an interesting choice on production’s part. Everyone else completes the task strong, even Celi who ends up in last place. Michael meanwhile has a moment where he runs out of gas mid challenge, exhausted, but manages to keep going and finish the job for the win. Liz particularly comes off as a very strong competitor, reminding me a lot of Linda from season 1, and she only loses to Michael because she’s ounces short and has to mix an extra batch of cement. Yes, there’s a lot of nicknames on this season. Bricklayer Michael "Eyebrows" Guerriero and Cement Mason Liz “Knuckles” Nichols end up winning the challenge, helped by their experience in the cement field. This is a shame, as it gives the team captains way less information about people’s strengths and weaknesses, only testing the ability to smash blocks into aggregate and mix and pour fresh cement into a mold. Unlike the first season, which had two separate challenges to determine team captains, this time there’s only one challenge, with the top two picking teams. The first challenge begins, which is a cement crafting obstacle course. The rest are your standard blue collar jobs, although of note is UPS Delivery Driver Patrick "Freight Train" Hargan, a job you wouldn’t expect on a show like this but makes sense in terms of toughness and of course, I can’t forget travel nurse Aracelis "Celi" Garcia, another atypical job for this type of show, but given she’s worked on a COVID-19 task force it’s great representation of a different type of toughness very revenant in today’s world. From first glance, the cast is great I’m from Hawaii myself, so I gotta root for lineman Cyril “Zeus” Ontai III, but we’re also got Merryl Tengesdal, famous for being the first and only African American woman to fly an Air Force U-2 spy plane. We start with 12 new contestants from all walks of life, and the show’s format really hasn’t changed since last season same teams, same individual challenge, same monetary prize. Hey! Noticed there wasn’t too much discussion on the new season of Tough as Nails, so here’s a recap / analysis thread for the first two episodes of season 2. ![]()
